Intro to Yalumba Organic Shiraz –

The Yalumba Organic Shiraz from the Barossa Valley in South Australia is a smooth easy drinking Shiraz with a lingering broad ripe fruit flavour made from organic grapes.

Full tasting note and wine making –

The Yalumba Organic Shiraz has aromas of spiced plums and peppercorns with fruit cake and forest floor and on the palate there is a mix of violets and spice with hints of licorice and lingering plum and cherry flavours. This is a fruit driven, medium bodied wine with soft, silky tannins and a savoury, persistent finish.
Yalumba is an industry leader in environmental stewardship; reducing carbon emissions, increasing biodiversity and exploring organic viticulture. These wines recognise our ongoing commitment to environmental management, crafted from certified organically grown grapes. The grapes for this wine were sourced from three family owned vineyards that are organically certified. The Carypides family vineyard located in the Adelaide Plains, the Barich family vineyard on the Murray River and the Palena family vineyard in the Riverland.

The producer –

The history of Yalumba goes back to 1849 when Samuel Smith set sail with his family for Adelaide and then onto Angaston to work for a fruit grower and where he planted his first vines. In 1852 he returned from the gold fields with enough money to buy additional land and plant more vines. This was the start of Yalumba, a wine producing company that continues to thrive and grow. In 1966 the first vintage of the eponymous wine The Signature Shiraz Cabernet blend was made honouring Samuel Smith at the heart of this family owned company.
In 1985 Robert Hill Smith took over as Managing Director, bought out all the other family shareholders, and insisted that the company major on growing grape varieties matched to terroir for which the company is renowned. In 1998 with the help of Louisa Rose Yalumba launched wines made from Viognier and she has become the world’s most influential Viognier winemaker.
Five generations and 160 years later Yalumba, Australia’s oldest family owned winery, has grown in size and stature, that has made the Australia making it a wine success story.
