Intro to Wirra Wirra Catapult Shiraz –

Wirra Wirra Catapult Shiraz is an archetypal McLaren Vale Shiraz with full berry and eucalyptus fruit, peppercorn and wood spice aromas. On the palate it has a big, concentrated mouthful of fruit with savoury acidity, balance and freshness.

Full tasting note and wine making –

In the Wirra Wirra Catapult Shiraz fresh red currants and blueberries leap from the glass with juicy raspberries, blueberries and spice and silky tannins. The palate is fleshy, juicy and plush with wonderful medium bodied balance and style and will age for up to 8 years. Fermentation takes place in tanks until enough colour, flavour and tannin was extracted from the skins and then moved into French oak barrels. Once malolactic fermentation was completed in barrel it was bottled after a total of 12 months in oak. There is 1% in this wine that adding some aroma and softens the McLaren Vale Shiraz tannins.

The producer –

Gregg Trott, the original owner had a philosophy was ‘Never give misery an even break, nor bad wine a second sip. You must be serious about quality, dedicated to your task in life, especially winemaking, but this should all be fun.’ And this is followed by the current team.
The Wirra Wirra vineyards are in McLaren Vale in South Australia where the Mediterranean climate is ideal for grape growing producing regionally distinctive wines. They also own vineyards in Adelaide Hills in the Mount Lofty Ranges just East of Adelaide where the altitude enables them to produce elegant cool climate wines with finesse in Lenswood and Piccadilly.
The Wirra Wirra winemaking philosophy is to the let grapes shine and reflect their quality. They are also very environmentally aware and practice sustainable agriculture conserving water, planting 3000 trees and reduced chemical use. Their vineyards near the winery are certified Biodynamic.
