Intro Running with Bulls Tempranillo Barossa Valley Australia –
The Running with Bulls Tempranillo from the Barossa Valley South Australia has a complex nose full of truffles, black cherry and spice and an alluring palate of red currants, dark chocolate and rhubarb with rustic Tempranillo tannins.
Full tasting note and wine making –
The Running with Bulls Tempranillo from the Barossa Valley is sourced from multiple growers in the western ranges, across the valley floor and into the Penrice region of the Barossa. Fermentation was followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks and maturation in new and mature oak barrels. It was aged for 10 months in new & mature Hungarian (55%), mature French (44%) & mature American (1%) oak barrels. The wine highlights the stylish fruit flavours and lovely tannins of Tempranillo with a subtle oak influence.
The Barossa Tempranillo has an expressive bouquet that opens up in the glass to reveal fruits of the forest, bramble and dark chocolate with hints of cinnamon and dried lavender. The wine is juicy and plush exhibiting flavours of Satsuma plum and chocolate, finishing with pomegranate crunch and long rustic tannins. Try with a spicy chorizo, red onion and capsicum pizza.
The producer –
The history of Yalumba goes back to 1849 when Samuel Smith set sail with his family for Adelaide and then onto Angaston to work for a fruit grower and where he planted his first vines. In 1852 he returned from the gold fields with enough money to buy additional land and plant more vines. This was the start of Yalumba, a wine producing company that continues to thrive and grow. In 1966 the first vintage of the eponymous wine The Signature Shiraz Cabernet blend was made honouring Samuel Smith at the heart of this family owned company.
In 1985 Robert Hill Smith took over as Managing Director, bought out all the other family shareholders, and insisted that the company major on growing grape varieties matched to terroir for which the company is renowned. In 1998 with the help of Louisa Rose Yalumba launched wines made from Viognier and she has become the worlds most influential Viognier winemaker.
Five generations and 160 years later Yalumba, Australia’s oldest family owned winery, has grown in size and stature, that has made the Australia making it a wine success story.
