Intro to Quinta do Noval Traditional LBV Port –
Quinta do Noval LBV Unfiltered Port is made solely from premium quality grapes from Quinta do Noval’s own vineyard, this LBV is a vigorous mouthful of fresh red fruits with great structure and a long, harmonious finish.
Full tasting note and wine making –
Vinified like Noval’s vintage ports 100% of the grapes come from the Quinta’s vineyards for the Noval LBV Port. It spends 5 years in cask and is made from a blend of blend of traditional grape varieties, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Cao. Intense, elegant aromas, ripe red fruits and spices, with solid tannins and a fine structure, long finish. This wine is unfiltered and will continue to develop in the bottle. As a result, it may throw a light deposit and need decanting.
The producer –
Quinta do Noval lies in the Douro valley in Northern Portugal and has been producing port since 1715. Quinta do Noval is unique among traditional port shippers in that our operations are based in the Douro. This means our ports are aged in the barrel in a giant cellar carved into the hills below our vineyards and not transported up river to Porto, to age there.
Quinta do Noval are the only historic port wine shipper to bear the name of its Quinta and is best known for its majestic Nacional Vintage Port, the rarest and more sought after Port in the world. Our ports are made in the traditional method and are foot trodden. Noval owns 145 hectares of grade A vineyards in Cima Cargo region. The aim is to produce great classic Vintage Ports which are harmonious and elegant expressions of the terroir of Quinta do Noval.
Quinta do Noval’s winemaker, Antonio Manuel de Sousa Pinto Agrellos, comes from a family that has produced, aged and traded in Port for four generations. His efforts earned him the accolade of Portuguese Oenologist of the Year both in 1997 and 2001.
