Intro to Painted Wolf  The Pictus VIII –

Painted Wolf The Pictus from Swartland in South Africa is an intense brooding full bodied spicy blend with good balance and a long finish.

Full tasting note and wine making –

The grapes for Painted Wolf The Pictus are sourced from Malmesbury in Swartland from unirrigated vineyards that are undergoing organic conversion. The grapes were handpicked into small baskets and taken to the cellar where they were hand sorted and crushed into small open fermenters. The wine was pressed in a basket press and aged in a blend of French (80%) and American (20%) casks for 18 months with approximately 40% new wood. The aim was to create a powerful satisfying wine with a rich harmonious palate and a long finish, and an excellent partner for a wide range of dishes. The wine was bottled in January 2011 and will continue to age in bottles for another 10 years.
