Introduction to Nieto Senetiner Don Nicanor
Nieto Senetiner Don Nicanor Malbec from Mendoza in Argentina is a deep dark dense wine full of ripe fruit flavours and hints of bitter chocolate.
Full tasting note and winemaking –
Nieto Senetiner Don Nicanor Malbec from the Agrelo region of Mendoza is a classic deep dark juicy fruit wine made from the Malbec grape. The aroma is full of sweet cranberries, blackcurrants and coffee notes with a smooth rounded palate with soft ripe tannins and hints of dark chocolate. There are some fine vanilla notes on the finish gained from aging in French oak barrels for eighteen months.
The producer –
The Nieto Senetiner company was established in 1969 and is one of the leading stars in Mendoza with vineyards in virtually all the best parts of Mendoza in the foothills of the Andes. The vines in these vineyards are forty to fifty years old and trained on pergolas so the air can reach the bunches and foliage cover them to stop them from scorching in the intense sun. Here they produce wines that are typical of Mendoza such as the Don Nicanor Malbec with a lovely balance of powerful flavours and finesse.
Food serving suggestions –
The richness, tannins and concentration of flavours make this wine a real food friend especially with steak, venison, lamb or vintage cheddar macaroni cheese.
