Intro to Mrs Wigley Moscato –

Mrs Wigley was not the wife of Wirra Wirra founder Bob Wigley but a cat born at a neighbouring residence and a permanent fixture in the cellars. This is a sweetly fruity lightly sparkling rose made from Grenache grapes.

Full tasting note and wine making –

Mrs Wigley Moscato has an array of aromas from bright raspberry to sweet, ripe strawberry, there is also subtle perfume, spice and green tea. The palate is bright, sweet and juicy up front, jammed full of tangy fruit acidity, soaked in juicy berries with hints of orange peel, peppermint and sweet spice, tailing to a crisp, refreshing finish. Drink whilst young and fresh over the next 2 years.

The producer –

Gregg Trott, the original owner had a philosophy was ‘Never give misery an even break, nor bad wine a second sip. You must be serious about quality, dedicated to your task in life, especially winemaking, but this should all be fun.’ And this is followed by the current team.
The Wirra Wirra vineyards are in McLaren Vale in South Australia where the Mediterranean climate is ideal for grape growing producing regionally distinctive wines. They also own vineyards in Adelaide Hills in the Mount Lofty Ranges just East of Adelaide where the altitude enables them to produce elegant cool climate wines with finesse in Lenswood and Piccadilly.
The Wirra Wirra winemaking philosophy is to the let grapes shine and reflect their quality. They are also very environmentally aware and practice sustainable agriculture conserving water, planting 3000 trees and reduced chemical use. Their vineyards near the winery are certified Biodynamic.

Drink with –

Try with chicken salad with Thai spices, herbs and chilli or as a part of the mix of a ginscato cocktail.

This wine named in her honour is a delicate and deliciously fragrant Moscato. Light in style and with a hint of fizz…… when to drink it? It’s great way to start the day with breakfast or at the end of the day with a slug of gin!
