The Chateau Ste Michelle Syrah Columbia Valley Washington State USA Syrah is a soft, ripe Syrah with spice and peppery notes made in an approachable and fruit forward style. This is an enjoyable, easy-to-drink red.

The fruit for the Chateau Ste Michelle Syrah Columbia Valley was sourced from vineyards in the Wahluke Slope, Horse Heaven Hills, Columbia Valley, Rattlesnake Hills and Yakima Valley AVAs. Syrah is well suited to eastern Washington’s long, warm growing season, resulting in ideal ripeness and complexity.
A combination of maceration techniques were used to bring out Syrah’s lush, concentrated character and minimize harsh tannins and approximately 80% of the wine was made using pumpover technique, where the juice was pumped over the cap twice daily to extract colour, aromas and flavours. The remaining 20% was made by pumping out of the tank, and then quickly put back over the cap, to submerge the grape skins. Syrah skins can be soft, and we want as many whole berries as possible, and this technique is gentle and afterwards it is aged for 16 months in 32% new French and American oak barrels.

Chateau Ste. Michelle owns 3,500 acres in Washington State’s renowned Columbia Valley. The Columbia Valley American Viticulture Area (AVA) is a region separated from Seattle’s rainy, marine climate by the Cascade Mountains. The mountains shield the rain, limiting annual rainfall to 6-8 inches, allowing our vineyard managers to control vine vigour through irrigation. All vines in the Columbia Valley are planted on their own rootstock, which helps them maintain the health and longevity of their vineyards and preserves the grape variety in its natural state.
Chateau Ste Michelle’’s beginnings date back to 1912 when a winery was built on the estate owned by Seattle lumber baron Frederick Stimson, the winery’’s roots date back to the Repeal of Prohibition. In 1967 under legendary winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff, a new line of premium vinifera wines was introduced called Ste. Michelle Vintners. Nine years later, Ste. Michelle Vintners built a French style winery Chateau in Woodinville, and changed its name to Chateau Ste. Michelle.
Since then, they have combined Old World winemaking traditions with New World innovation. In fact, Chateau Ste. Michelle is one of the few premium wineries in the world with two state-of-the-art wineries, one for red and one for white. The whites are made at the Chateau in Woodinville, WA, while the reds are made at the Canoe Ridge Estate winery in Eastern Washington.

This wine is a perfect match with beef and other red meat dishes.
