Intro to Chateau Saint Roch Limoux Chardonnay –

The Chateau Saint Roch Limoux Chardonnay is a dry white and is blended with 15% Chenin Blanc. Oak ageing and malolactic fermentation and lees ageing add texture and complexity.

Full tasting note and wine making –

This dry white is Chardonnay blended with 15% Chenin Blanc, the former adding weight and richness whilst the Chenin adds a balancing freshness. Oak ageing along with other Burgundian practices such as malolactic fermentation and lees ageing add a lovely texture and savoury complexity to this fantastic wine.
Chateau Saint Roch Limoux Chardonnay has toasted bready notes lead on the nose, intertwined with fruits such as peach and pineapple and a touch of vanilla. The palate reveals a wine with good texture, refined elegance and minerality.

The producer –

A small enclave on the river Aude, Limoux is about 19 miles due south of Carcassonne. It is one of southern France’s hidden gems, best known for its sparkling Blanquette wine but now carving out a reputation for the quality of its still wines, which provide excellent value for money. Limoux’s elevation in the foothills of the Pyrenees moderates the extremes of the Mediterranean climate, making it much cooler than other Languedoc appellations, and imbuing finesse to the wines. Château Saint-Roch has been in the Ginestous family since the 17th century. The current owner and guardian is Jacqueline Menard de Ginestous who continues the family winemaking tradition. The estate’s 88 hectares of vines are on a hillside facing the stunning Pyrenees Mountains, at an average elevation of some 300m. Ginestous’ white winemaking has more than a nod to Burgundian tradition with whole bunch pressing and barrel fermentation, producing a rich and complex wine. The Merlot-led red is supple, full and fruity with ripe summer berry aromas.
