Intro to Barry Bros Shiraz Cabernet –
Barry Brothers Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon from the Clare Valley South Australia is a deep dark scented wine with lovely deep fruit notes and supple tannins on the palate.
Full tasting note and wine making –
In 2013 Tom and Sam Barry, Peter’s sons, released The Barry Brothers Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon, the first wine developed independently by the brothers. This wine, helped them become the youngest winemakers to be awarded the classic Australian Best Shiraz/Cabernet Blend Trophy at the 2014 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards.
Barry Brothers Shiraz Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon from the Clare Valley has aromas of liqueur cherries, blackberry, blood plum, aniseed and spice and opens up to show floral notes. On the palate, there are juicy red fruits of cherry, plum and raspberry, with hints of earth and savoury herbs complemented by supple tannins and a persistent finish.
The producer –
Certain names resonate strongly within the halls of Australian wine history. Jim Barry Wines is one of those names. It was Jim Barry’s drive and community spirit that helped shape South Australia’s Clare Valley as a benchmark in the world of Riesling and cemented its place as one of Australia’s premier wine regions.
Jim Barry was the first qualified winemaker in the Clare Valley, graduating as the 17th student to gain a Degree in Oenology at the famous Roseworthy Agricultural College in 1947. Working for 22 years as winemaker at the Clarevale Co-operative, Jim Barry became a pioneer of Australian table wine and helped Taylors Wines establish in 1969.
Jim’s sons, Peter, Mark & John were involved in the companys rise. Peter Barry became managing director in 1985. Today Peter’s sons Tom and Sam both work for Jim Barry Wines as winemaker and commercial manager, while daughter Olivia is works as company ambassador in the UK.
The company’s own vineyards now are at 10 locations in the Clare Valley with a 14 hectare property at Coonawarra. This access to high-quality, estate-grown fruit has been instrumental in the development of a number of prominent brands, including The Armagh Shiraz, The McRae Wood Shiraz, The Lodge Hill Shiraz, La Florita Riesling, The Lodge Hill Riesling as well as the Watervale Riesling.
